Job summary

ALLEGAN COUNTY RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE INC is seeking a Head Start Teaching Assistant to support classroom activities under the supervision of the Education Supervisor/Director of Operations. The role involves assisting with lesson plans, activities, screenings, meals, and safety compliance.

Required CDA credential or willingness to obtain, 480 hours childcare experience, and CPR/First Aid certification.

Qualifications

• Must meet Head Start requirements, including a CDA credential or willingness to obtain one.
• Have 480 hours of childcare experience.
• Pass pre-employment physical and TB test.
• Be certified in Infant/Child and Adult CPR and Basic First Aid.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Teacher in developing and implementing classroom lesson plans.
• Assist in implementing daily group and individual activities to support child development.
• Assist with children's screenings and assessments.
• Assist with preparing and serving meals and cleaning up after meals.
• Assist with diapering and classroom setup/clean-up.
• Ensure safety and emergency procedures are followed and confidentiality maintained.

Required Education and Experience:

Must meet the Head Start requirements, including a minimum of or willingness to obtain a Child Development Associate Credentials, awarded by the Council of Professional Development and have 480 hours of childcare experience. Pass pre-employment physical, TB test. Be certified in Infant/Child and Adult CPR and Basic First Aid.

Summary/Objective:

The Head Start Teaching Assistant completes the listed tasks. All tasks are considered essential except those identified as non-essential.

Essential Functions

• Assisting the Teacher in the development and implementation of classroom lesson plans and classroom management.
• Assisting the teacher in implementing daily group and individual activities so that the children are provided with opportunities to enhance their development.
• Assisting the Teaching with the children's screenings and assessments.
• Assists in preparing and serving meals daily, cleaning up as needed after meal service.
• Assists with diapering.
• Assists teacher with classroom set-up and clean-up.
• Ensures safety and emergency procedures are followed.
• Attends all scheduled staff meetings for position held.
• Ensures compliance with all Local, State, and Federal regulations.
• Completes documentation as required.
• Conducts a self-evaluation and works consistently to improve own job performance & develops individual professional development goals annually.
• Communicates regularly and works cooperatively with all staff.
• Always maintains confidentiality.
• Respects and promotes the unique identity of each child and family, and refrains from stereotyping based on gender, race, ethnicity, culture, religion, or disability.
• Ensures compliance with all Local, State, and Federal regulations.
