Job summary

The Allegan County Resource Development Committee Inc Head Start Teaching Assistant supports early childhood education by aiding the lead teacher in planning and implementing daily lessons and classroom activities, helping with screenings, meals, and safety routines.

You will work closely with staff to ensure development opportunities for children, maintain confidentiality, follow regulations, and pursue required credentials such as the Child Development Associate and CPR/First Aid

Qualifications

  • Must meet Head Start requirements.
  • Willingness to obtain a Child Development Associate Credentials.
  • Have 480 hours of childcare experience.
  • Pass pre-employment physical, TB test.
  • Be certified in Infant/Child and Adult CPR and Basic First Aid.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting the Teacher in developing and implementing classroom lesson plans and management.
  • Assisting with daily group and individual activities to support development.
  • Assisting with children’s screenings and assessments.
  • Prepare and serve meals daily, clean up after meals.
  • Assist with diapering.
  • Set up and clean up the classroom.
  • Ensure safety and emergency procedures are followed.
  • Attend scheduled staff meetings.
  • Ensure compliance with Local, State, and Federal regulations.
  • Complete required documentation.
  • Engage in self-evaluation and pursue professional development goals.
  • Communicate regularly and collaborate with staff.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Respect each child and family’s identity, avoiding stereotypes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor or Executive Director.

Position Title:

Head Start Teaching Assistant

Required Education and Experience:

Must meet the Head Start requirements, including a minimum of or willingness to obtain a Child Development Associate Credentials, awarded by the Council of Professional Development and have 480 hours of childcare experience. Pass pre-employment physical, TB test. Be certified in Infant/Child and Adult CPR and Basic First Aid.

Summary/Objective:

The Head Start Teaching Assistant completes the listed tasks. All tasks are considered essential except those identified as non-essential.

Essential Functions
  • Assisting the Teacher in the development and implementation of classroom lesson plans and classroom management.
  • Assisting the teacher in implementing daily group and individual activities so that the children are provided with opportunities to enhance their development.
  • Assisting the Teaching with the children's screenings and assessments.
  • Assists in preparing and serving meals daily, cleaning up as needed after meal service.
  • Assists with diapering.
  • Assists teacher with classroom set-up and clean-up.
  • Ensures safety and emergency procedures are followed.
  • Attends all scheduled staff meetings for position held.
  • Ensures compliance with all Local, State, and Federal regulations.
  • Completes documentation as required.
  • Conducts a self-evaluation and works consistently to improve own job performance & develops individual professional development goals annually.
  • Communicates regularly and works cooperatively with all staff.
  • Always maintains confidentiality.
  • Respects and promotes the unique identity of each child and family, and refrains from stereotyping based on gender, race, ethnicity, culture, religion, or disability.
  • Ensures compliance with all Local, State, and Federal regulations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor and/or Executive Director
