Job summary

Champlain Valley Office of Economic Opportunity (CVOEO) is seeking a Head Start Teacher to lead or co-teach at a Head Start program site in Colchester, VT. You will work in a team, supervise and support families, and ensure adherence to Head Start and state regulations to promote school readiness.

The role requires a Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field, with preferred Vermont ECE licensure.

Description

Head Start is a federally-funded, national child and family development program which provides comprehensive services for pregnant women, children from birth to age five, and their families. Services for children promote school readiness, and include early education, health, nutrition, mental health, and services for children with special needs. Services for parents promote family engagement, and include parent leadership and social service supports.

Serve as lead or co-teacher for assigned program option site in an outcomes-oriented, team environment under the supervision of the Head Start County Supervisor. Ensure program compliance with federal Head Start Program Performance Standards, Vermont Child Care Licensing regulations, the CVHS Active Supervision Protocol, as well as all other applicable regulations, best practices, and agency and program policies and procedures. Provide and maintain safe, healthy, friendly, and developmentally appropriate environment for young children. Maintain the highest standards of diplomacy and professionalism, in all settings within and outside of Champlain Valley Office of Economic Opportunity (CVOEO), in representing CVOEO, Champlain Valley Head Start (CVHS), and CVHS children and families. Exercise good judgment in all situation.

40 hours/week, approximately 42 weeks/year (summer layoff). Rate of pay during first 60- working day probationary period is $23.73 - $28.08/hour; post probationary rate of pay is $24.07 - $28.76/hour.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or related education field; Vermont educator's license with early childhood education endorsement preferred; knowledge and experience in developmentally appropriate early childhood practice, child outcome assessment, child behavior management, and curriculum planning, development and implementation; a commitment to social justice and to working with families with limited financial resources; excellent verbal and written communication (bilingual abilities a plus!), documentation, and recordkeeping skills; valid driver's license, clean driving record and access to reliable transportation; physical ability to carry out required tasks.
