Job summary

Wateree Community Actions, Inc. is seeking a Teacher Assistant for a Head Start program in Sumter, SC.

Under direct supervision of a classroom teacher, you will create a safe, healthy learning environment and support development across social, physical, emotional, cognitive, and nutritional domains. You will help prepare instructional materials, implement activities, monitor progress, and maintain daily schedules while promoting positive communication with parents and children.

Qualifications

• CDA credential required.
• Associates or Bachelors degree or enrolled in a program leading to one.
• Experience teaching preschool-aged children.

Responsibilities

• Assists a teacher in preparing instructional materials and in implementing instructional activities for young children.
• Assists in plan implementation, monitoring and record keeping.
• Follows positive discipline and confidentiality policies.
• Follow daily schedule provided by teacher.

Job DetailsJob Location: Morris College HS - Sumter, SC 29150Salary Range: $14.85 Hourly

Under direct supervision of a classroom teacher, the teacher assistant is responsible for providing children with a safe and healthy learning environment at an assigned facility in accordance with the Head Start Performance Standards. This includes planning, coordinating, and supervising a classroom environment that promotes each child's total development (i.e. social, physical, emotional, cognitive and nutritional) while promoting positive, open communication with parents and children.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Assists a teacher in preparing instructional materials and in implementing instructional activities for young children.
• Assists a teacher in providing developmentally appropriate activities/practices which encourage the intellectual, social, physical and emotional growth of children.
• Assists in plan implementation, monitoring and record keeping.
• Follows positive discipline and confidentiality policies.
• Follow daily schedule provided by teacher.
• Provides constant supervision of children during all activities indoors and outdoors
• Attends all pre-service and in-service training sessions
• Perform related activities as assigned.

QualificationsEducation and Experience

• Have a child development associate (CDA) credential;
• Have an associate or baccalaureate degree (in any area) or be enrolled in a program leading to such a degree.
• Have experience teaching pre-school age children.

Knowledge and Abilities

• Must have a desire to work with young children and be sensitive to their needs.
• Must have the ability to relate, work and communicate with children and adults from varying socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds.
• Must have a responsible and mature attitude.
• Must be able to read, write, communicate and follow directions accurately and with clear understanding.
• Must be a team player and cooperate with staff in providing a wholesome center environment.

Special Requirements:

• Must be able to physically perform emergency evacuations.
• Must respond positively to Child Abuse/Neglect, Sled/Fingerprint and Drug/Alcohol Screening.
• Must participate when required in First Aid Certificate and CPR Training.
• Must have an annual TB screening and current physical exam.
