Job summary

Aleutian Pribilof Islands Association, Inc. is seeking a Head Start Teacher Aide in Unalaska, Alaska to assist theLead Teacher with daily lesson plans and classroom activities.

The role requires at least 18 years old with a HS diploma or GED and involves working with young children and their families. Training in early childhood development and pursuit of a CDA within 1 year are encouraged. Eligible candidates will support a safe learning environment at all times.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old with a high school diploma or GED.
• One year of experience working with groups of children preferred.
• Physically/mentally able to work with young children and their families.
• Willing to be trained in early childhood development and to pursue a CDA within 1 year of hire.

Responsibilities

• Assist Head Start Teacher with daily lesson plans as requested.
• Prepare and clean up activities and projects.
• Teach health, dental and other lessons as directed by the Lead Teacher.
• Provide opportunities for children to develop self-mastery skills.
• Ensure a safe environment by supervising children at all times.
• Use appropriate discipline and redirection and set reasonable limits.
• Maintain paperwork and conduct home visits and parent/teacher conferences.

Duties

• Assist APIA Head Start Teacher as requested to implement daily lesson plans
• Preparation and clean-up of activities, special projects, etc.
• Teach children appropriate health, dental, and other lessons as directed by the Lead Teacher
• Provide opportunities for children to develop self-mastery skills
• Provide safe environment for children by supervising them at all times, indoors and out
• Use of appropriate discipline/guidance techniques, including redirection, acknowledgement of appropriate behavior, and setting reasonable limits
• Maintain paperwork and files, conduct home visit/parent/teacher conferences

Qualifications

• At least 18 years of age with a high school diploma/GED
• One year of experience working with groups of children as a childcare provider in home/center and/or volunteering in a Head Start program is preferred
• Physically/mentally able to work with young children and their families
• Willing to be trained in the field of early childhood development and to engage in appropriate topical reading and individual work
• Willing to achieve a Child Development Associate (CDA) preschool teaching credential within 1 year of hire

Requirements

Upon date of hire, must provide documentation of current TB test and Hepatitis screening/vaccination status; pre-employment physical examination; criminal history background clearance and be willing to obtain a CPR and First Aid Certification.
