Job summary

Tri--valley-Opportunity-Council is seeking a Teacher (Sub) to assist the Classroom Staff in implementing a developmentally appropriate program for children.

You will cover for teachers when absent and help recruit potential parents by sharing information about program services and benefits.

Qualifications

• CDA credential with 1,560 hours of experience in licensed ECE setting or public school system.
• AA degree with 1,040 hours experience in licensed ECE setting or public school system.
• BA/BS with 1,040 hours experience in licensed ECE setting or public school system.
• MA/MS with 1,040 hours experience in licensed ECE setting or public school system.
• Comfortable working with computers and learning program systems.

Responsibilities

• Assist classroom staff with daily activities and classroom management.
• Help implement activities aligned with Creative Curriculum and classroom interests.
• Maintain flexibility for children’s interests guiding classroom direction.
• Lead activities as requested by teachers or center leadership.
• Establish positive relationships with parents and maintain professional boundaries.
• Understand and respond to medical conditions/allergies of children in care.
• Communicate with parents about classroom information per Data Privacy policy.
• Attend to children's personal hygiene needs and change clothes as needed.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by staff or leadership.

Education

SUMMARY OF PRIMARY FUNCTION

The Teacher (Sub) is responsible for assisting the Classroom Staff in the implementation of a classroom program designed to give each child an opportunity to participate in experiences that will enrich his/her development in a safe environment.Teacher Subs take the place of Teachers absent for a period of time on an as needed basis, i.e.: illness, vacation or training. Helps recruit potential parents by providing information to them about the various program services and benefits offered to enrolled children and families.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Classroom Operations

1. Assists classroom staff with implementation of daily activities and classroom management principles.
2. Assist in implementing classroom activities around concepts that incorporate the interests of the classroom community and meet goals and objectives outlined in the Creative Curriculum.
3. Maintain enough flexibility to allow children's interests to guide classroom direction
4. Be responsible for and lead some activities as requested by the Teacher, Preschool Assistant Teacher, Infant Toddler Teacher, or center leadership.
5. Establish and maintain positive, pleasant and trusting relationships with parents, respecting their individual needs and maintaining professional and appropriate boundaries.
6. Know all medical conditions/needs of the children in the classroom (including allergies) and how to respond to these needs.
7. Discuss what will be communicated to parents with the classroom team in order to give parents consistent messages in accordance with the Data Privacy policy.
8. Tends to children's personal hygiene needs including diaper changing, cleaning, feeding, and changing soiled or wet clothes.
9. Assume other duties as requested by the classroom staff or center leadership.

Safety & Sanitation

1. Maintains a safe, clean, care-giving environment, practices good personal hygiene and hand washing, and assures the well-being and safety of all of the children in that environment.
2. Utilizes disciplinary measures appropriately as outlined in the Behavior Guidance Policies and Procedures.
3. Protects all children from physical punishment or verbal abuse by anyone in any program activity, and immediately reports any such incident to the person in charge.
4. Provides for the physical safety of each child from arrival time until departure time.
5. Assures that safety and sanitation policies and procedures are followed appropriately.
6. Assures that children are dressed appropriately for the weather and type of play in which they are engaged.
7. Assures that children are supervised at all times.
8. Have or obtain within 90 days of hire a First Aid and CPR Certification as well as maintain the certification during employment. Administer First Aid and CPR when necessary.

Communication

1. Greets children and their parents warmly and with enthusiasm.
2. Maintains a cooperative attitude of working together with other staff, parents and volunteers in planning and implementing activities for the program/classroom.
3. Maintains a positive, calm attitude and a pleasant, soothing voice, and models this attitude and voice for parents and others working or volunteering in the program.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

1. Educational and experience requirements:

• A Child Development Associate (CDA) credential (infant/toddlers or preschool) and 1,560 hours of experience in a licensed early childhood setting or public school system OR;
• AA degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or related field with 12 credits of accepted, education-related coursework and 1,040 hours experience in a licensed early childhood setting or public school system OR;
• BA/BS degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development, or related field with 12 credits of accepted, education-related coursework and 1,040 hours experience in a licensed early childhood setting or public school system OR;
• MA/MS degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development, or related field with 12 credits of accepted, education-related coursework and 1,040 hours experience in a licensed early childhood setting or public school system.
