Floyd County Head Start seeks a caring teacher assistant for our Head Start program. Responsibilities include engaging preschool children (ages 3-5) in play-based learning to meet School Readiness Goals. Teacher Assistants are trained to obtain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) to drive buses for transporting children.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Complete daily bus routes (CDL training provided, pay increases after completion).
- Engage children through various learning experiences.
- Collaborate with Lead Teacher on goals and activities.
- Use children’s interests to guide curriculum.
- Ensure a safe environment using Active Supervision.
- Implement classroom management strategies.
- Assess children’s developmental progress.
- Assist with developmental screenings.
- Maintain timely documentation.
- Participate in home visits and family conferences.
- Use agency software for data input and reporting.
- Coordinate with departments for resource maximization.
Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED required; CDA or Associate's preferred.
- Experience in childcare or early childhood education required.
- CDA must be obtained within two years (training and testing paid by agency).
- Valid CDL or willingness to obtain one within 90 days, maintaining legal standards.
- Physical and emotional ability to work with young children.
- Effective communication skills with children, parents, and professionals.
- Ability to physically transport children and supervise in various environments.
- Proficiency with computer programs for data entry and classroom technology.
- Willingness to pass background checks, physical, drug, and TB tests.
Schedule
- Monday-Thursday 7AM-4PM.
- 36 hours paid for 40 hours worked; additional hours on Fridays for catch-up.
- Some Fridays required for training, with schedules provided upfront.
- 43 weeks per year, with breaks for fall, winter, spring, and summer.
