Floyd County Head Start is looking to add a loving and supportive teacher to our Head Start program. Our Head Start teachers and assistants work together as a team to engage preschool students (ages 3-5 years old) in fun, play-based learning to achieve our School Readiness Goals!
Responsibilities and Duties
- Engage and challenge children through various learning experiences.
- Collaborate with Teacher Assistant to develop and implement goals and objectives.
- Plan and implement activities using provided lesson plan format.
- Utilize children's interests to drive the curriculum.
- Establish a safe and healthy environment using Active Supervision.
- Implement effective classroom management strategies.
- Assess children to demonstrate measurable progress in all developmental domains.
- Administer developmental screenings appropriately.
- Maintain timely documentation and records as required by regulations.
- Participate in 2 home visits and 2 family teacher conferences per school year.
- Use agency software to input data and generate reports for tracking and follow-up.
- Collaborate with all departments to maximize resources.
Qualifications (Skills, Knowledge, Abilities)
- Associate's degree in Early Childhood Education or related field required; Bachelor's preferred.
- Ability to implement hands-on curriculum.
- Friendly, flexible, team-oriented.
- Strong leadership skills.
- Ability to adapt to a high-paced environment.
- Knowledge of childcare licensing requirements preferred.
- Must be physically and emotionally capable of working with young children.
- Effective communication with children, parents, and professionals.
- Ability to safely transport children (0-5 years old); adequate vision and hearing; ability to be at child's eye level.
- Proficient in computer skills for data entry and guiding children in using classroom technology.
- Willing to complete pre-employment background checks, including fingerprints, physical, drug test, and TB test as per regulations.
Schedule
- Monday-Thursday 7 AM - 4 PM.
- Must work 36 hours but paid for 40; additional 4 hours can be utilized on Fridays for catch-up.
- Some Fridays (4 hours) required for In-Service and Training, with dates provided upfront.
- 43 weeks per year (Off for Fall, Winter, Spring, and Summer Breaks).
- PTO accrued monthly.
