Job summary

Crystal Stairs, Inc. in Los Angeles, CA seeks an experienced Head Start Master Teacher (Coach) to mentor and develop teachers across classrooms. This 100% onsite role focuses on improving instructional quality and individualizing curricula based on ongoing observations.

The position requires a relevant degree, Teacher-level Child Development Permit eligibility, and CLASS certification, with a commitment to equity and family engagement in a Head Start setting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or advanced degree in early childhood education or child development or related field with ECE coursework.
• Must have or be eligible for a Child Development Permit (Teacher level or above) within six months.
• CLASS certified and maintain certification annually.

Responsibilities

• Provide feedback to coaching staff in a supportive, instructional manner and help tailor curricula.
• Evaluate classroom quality using ECERS and other assessment tools.
• Create opportunities for children to explore media through art, music, drama within the program.
• Maintain a safe, organized classroom and plan for children's safety in indoor/outdoor facilities.
• Inspect facilities for hazards and follow emergency exit procedures with regular drills.

Education

What We're Looking For:

Searching for a dedicated, mission-driven Early Head Start Master Teacher to coach, mentor and develop teachers to improve the ability of the teaching staff to assess and understand the children they teach.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Provide feedback in a supportive, instructive and non-judgmental way; enhancing the ability of teaching staff to observe children's activities and experiences as part of the ongoing assessment process and to use this information to individualize the curriculum.
• Evaluate classroom quality using the Early Childhood Education Rating Scale (ECERS) and other assessment tools.
• Provide opportunities for children to use their creative abilities, and to explore and experiment with a variety of media through art, music, drama in all aspects of the program.
• Maintain a vibrant, well-arranged and orderly classroom; develops a plan to ensure the safety of the children while they are using indoor and outdoor facilities.
• Inspect facilities for hazardous conditions, unsafe equipment and materials; follows an emergency exit plan and conducts monthly emergency exit drills.

EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES YOU SHOULD POSSESS:

• Bachelor's or advanced degree in early childhood education or child development; or a Bachelor's degree in a related field and 24 ECE coursework units equivalent to a major relating to early childhood education, with experience teaching preschool-age children.
• Must have or be eligible for a Child Development Permit at the Teacher Level or above. The Child Development Permit at the Teacher level or above must be submitted to Crystal Stairs, Inc. - Head Start within six (6) months of employment.
• Must be CLASS certified and must maintain certification (annually).

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Valid California driver's license, motor vehicle and evidence of automobile liability insurance. Meet State health requirements including passing a physical examination as a condition of employment, and provide verification of a TB clearance at the time of employment. CPR and Basic First Aid certificate. Fingerprints must be on file with the Justice Department.
