Job summary

Gateway Community Action Agency seeks a part-time instructional assistant for Morgan Central HS Center in West Liberty, KY. The role supports teachers with curriculum delivery, implements developmentally appropriate practices, and helps with daily classroom routines in a Head Start setting.

The position requires a High School Diploma/GED, with Child Development Associate or equivalent preferred. Valid KY license and background checks are needed, with a focus on safety and program compliance.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Assist teacher with curriculum implementation in the classroom.
• Apply developmentally appropriate practices.
• Assist with daily activities (diapering/toileting, napping, mealtime).
• Assist in maintaining a system for assessing and tracking child progress.
• Engage with parents to support home-school connections and curriculum information.
• Maintain relationships with community partners and program needs.
• Ensure a safe and healthy classroom environment and safety compliance.
• Assist in implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
• Participate in meetings, events, and training as required.
• Monitor Head Start buses as requested.
• Complete at least 15 clock hours of professional development annually.

Summary/Objective

Performs a combination of instructional tasks to assist and support the teacher, the goals and objectives of individual children, and the overall classroom environment.

Essential Functions

• Assists teacher with implementation of curricula in the classroom
• Applies knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices
• Assists with daily activities, including but not limited to; regular instruction, diapering/toileting, napping, mealtime, etc.
• Assists in maintaining a comprehensive system for assessing and tracking child progress
• Cooperates with parents to build and support home school connections by providing parents with information about curriculum and school readiness
• Maintains relationships with community partners by being proactive and supportive of program needs
• Maintains a safe and healthy classroom environment through continued awareness and maintaining commitment to keeping all children safe
• Assists in implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEP’s)
• Complies with the Head Start Performance Standards and all applicable local, state, and federal laws.
• Works collaboratively with teacher
• Participates in assigned meetings, events, and training as required
• Monitors Head Start Buses as requested
• Ensure that a minimum of 15 clock hours of allowable professional development is completed annually.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a regular part time position. Days and hours of work are planned in advance and schedule is provided at the beginning of each program year. In order to meet the needs of the agency, permanent or temporary changes and/or modifications to the schedule may occur as dictated by management.

Travel

Travel is primarily local during the business day, although out-of-area travel may be expected upon notice.

• Valid Kentucky driver’s license, reliable transportation, and satisfactory background checks.

• Any/all other testing or applicable checks required by local, state, or federal law.
