Do you love to cook? Are you a team player? Do you enjoy working with kids? The Richmond Head Start is looking for a cook!

The Cook is responsible for the overall food service, including ordering and prepping, following established procedures and guidelines, and providing educational support around nutrition.

Essential Functions
  1. Prepare and serve well-balanced, nutritious meals in large quantities within menu requirements, following established recipes.
  2. Maintain accurate CACFP records.
  3. Provide guidance to food service volunteers.
  4. Share information with staff regarding children’s dietary needs.
  5. Maintain kitchen equipment and supplies.
  6. Conduct food inventory and equipment checks.
  7. Complete production records for each meal to meet nutrition guidelines.
  8. Monitor and participate in meal service and tooth brushing programs.
  9. Participate in annual menu planning.
  10. Act as a nutrition educator, providing nutrition education to families.
  11. Participate in scheduled staff meetings.
  12. Maintain a clean and sanitary food prep area, completing weekly and monthly cleaning duties.
  13. Plan and conduct two food activities per month with teacher support.
  14. Plan and conduct daily nutrition education with children.
  15. Pass the ServSafe certification within two years of hire.
  16. Develop weekly grocery lists and purchase necessary items not available through vendors.
  17. Maintain confidentiality regarding children's files and health needs.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Driver's License.

This position will not start until August 2025. It is a 30-hour per week position.
