Job summary

Volunteers of America in Los Angeles is seeking a Co-Teacher for Head Start/Early Head Start to provide a developmentally appropriate learning environment for children aged 0–5. You will work closely with a Co-Teacher and Family Advocate to ensure comprehensive services and family engagement.

Responsibilities include planning and implementing morning and afternoon curricula, collaborating with HS services, maintaining records, and supporting families as their children’s primary educators.

Qualifications

• Fingerprint clearance and background checks required.
• Valid California driver’s license or reliable transportation.
• TB clearance, annual influenza vaccination, and immunizations (Pertussis and measles).
• Health screening at time of employment.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and move quickly.

Responsibilities

• Provide children with varied activities to promote social, emotional, intellectual, and physical development.
• Plan and implement the program curriculum for morning and afternoon classes (double sessions) and coordinate with Co-Teacher and Family Advocate.
• Integrate Head Start services into learning, including parent involvement, social services, nutrition, health, and mental health services.
• Maintain children's records and submit monthly paperwork in a timely manner.
• Observe, screen and assess children’s developmental levels and set goals.
• Provide a planned program of activities that supports and enhances the role of parents as primary educators of their children.
• Ensure learning environments reflect diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds and meet health and safety requirements.

Skills

Bilingual English and Spanish

Experience with children

Education

High School Diploma/GED

24 CD units in Early Child Education/Child Development

AA in ECE/CD with 24 units (or related field)

Associate Teacher Child Development Permit or higher
