Job description

Join a mission-driven team dedicated to nurturing the growth of young children and supporting families across North Idaho. As a Head Start Classroom Teacher in Rathdrum, you’ll lead a collaborative classroom environment that promotes curiosity, development, and school readiness through intentional, play-based learning.

In this role, you will implement developmentally appropriate curriculum, ensure a safe and inclusive classroom setting, and guide each child’s learning journey through observation, assessment, and individualized goal-setting. You’ll work closely with families, support staff, and specialists to meet each child’s developmental needs and maintain accurate, timely documentation.

The ideal candidate brings strong interpersonal skills, a positive and professional attitude, and the ability to work effectively with children and families from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds. A commitment to equity, confidentiality, and teamwork is essential. Familiarity with early childhood development, special services processes (such as IEPs), and experience using digital tools for documentation and communication are also key to success.

Work Schedule: 69% Full-Time (July - June)

Minimum Qualifications
Education

  • Level I: Associates degree in Early Childhood Education, or Child Development, OR Associates degree in any other field of study AND: the equivalent of a major in Early Childhood Education or Child Development.
  • Level II: Bachelors degree in Early Childhood Education, or Child Development, OR Bachelors degree in any other field of study AND: the equivalent of a major in Early Childhood Education or Child Development

Experience

  • One year experience (256 hours minimum) as a staff or volunteer in a preschool classroom with at least 10 children

Required License and/or Certifications:

  • Register with Idaho STARS and participate in the professional development system.
  • Meet all training and certification requirements for child care licensing and Head Start Program Performance Standards.
  • Maintain current Infant/child & Adult CPR and First Aid.
  • Meet terms of Statement of Agreement/ Employment Declaration.
  • Pass an enhanced criminal background check including fingerprinting, as required by Head Start Program Performance Standards and Child Care Licensing requirements, prior to first day of work.

Employment is contingent upon successful completion of background check and proof of degree if requiredfor this position.
