Job summary

Missouri Valley Community Action Agency is seeking a Teacher Assistant and Bus Monitor to support early childhood education at our Head Start center.

The role assists the teacher with developmentally appropriate activities, maintains classroom and playground setups, and helps document child progress while ensuring safety and confidentiality. A high school diploma or GED and a valid driver's license are required, with CDA eligibility within 18 months.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• Applicant must also have a valid driver's license.
• Willing to earn a Child Development Associate Credential within 18 months of hire unless have a CDA credential.

Responsibilities

• Promote a positive work environment by guiding volunteers during group sessions.
• Assist in development and implementation of lesson plans based on individual children’s developmental level.
• Maintain appropriate programmatic documentation in each child-family file.
• Manage the classroom in the absence of the teacher and participate in staff meetings.
• Provide information to parent committees and support family access to community resources.
• Provide transition information and ensure children are released to authorized adults.
• Follow health, safety and sanitation guidelines and create a developmentally appropriate learning environment.
• Observe and document child progress, screening, assessment and observation.
• Communicate with staff and families, and recruit/train volunteers as needed.
• Access community resources to extend learning opportunities with field trips and visitors.
• Stay current in knowledge of child development through ongoing training.
