Job summary

YWCA of Metropolitan St. Louis is seeking an Early Childhood Assistant to support Head Start classrooms, helping to promote health, social, emotional and cognitive development while implementing activity plans and field trips.

You will work with families to build learning opportunities, maintain classroom records, and foster a nurturing environment for young children. A high school diploma/GED is required and willingness to obtain a CDA; must be able to lift up to 40 lbs.

Qualifications

• A working knowledge of early childhood development and education.
• Ability to communicate effectively with parents and include them in their child’s learning process.
• Knowledge of organizational skills to facilitate meeting designated timelines.

Responsibilities

• Assist in developing and implementing developmentally appropriate activities daily.
• Conduct daily health checks and ensure environment is clean, safe and free of hazards.
• Assist with creating learning environments in the classroom and outside for young children which promote experimentation and exploration.
• Communicate effectively with parents in promoting parental involvement in their child’s early learning experiences.
• Facilitate and assist children in developing positive relationships that support a caring community within the classroom.
• Assist with maintaining and updating records on all children enrolled in the classroom.
