Job summary

A community organization is seeking a Bus Driver to transport children for the Head Start program. The role includes maintaining safety, accurate records, and compliance with local regulations, while supporting educators during the transportation process. Candidates must have a current commercial driver’s license, pass background checks, and possess a high school diploma.

Qualifications

  • Current Ohio Commercial Driver's License Class A, B, or C with endorsements P and S.
  • Ability to lift and manage all children, including handicapped children as necessary.
  • Complete pre-service and yearly in-service training requirements.

Responsibilities

Job description

Qualifications:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent
  2. Current Ohio Commercial Driver’s License Class A, B, or C and endorsements P (Passenger Vehicle) and S (School Bus)
  3. Understanding of pupil transportation in the educational program & meet all the physical, mental, & moral requirements established by the state laws and regulations, & local board of education policies.
  4. 21 years of age or meet local board policy requirements
  5. Complete pre-employment physical and drug screening; complete BCI and FBI background review; background check for child abuse and sex offender registry.
  6. Current bus driver’s annual certificate
  7. Complete pre-service & yearly in-service training requirements
  8. Physically capable of appropriately lifting & managing all children, including handicapped children as necessary.

Job Description:

  1. Will be responsible for safely transporting children for the Head Start
  2. Will keep up to date and accurate records including pre-trip inspections, defective equipment reports, seating charts, and pre/post attendance sheet.
  3. Operate the bus in accordance with the Ohio Pupil Transportation Operation and Safety Rules and Head Start Program and Performance Standards.

  5. Assist with plans and schedules while assisting teachers in
  6. Interact with children while in the center & make sure center rules are always maintained.
  7. Assist with the implementation of the food service as required by CACFP, Head Start Performance Standards and local health regulations. Duties include, but are not limited to, serving meals, maintaining accurate attendance and meal counts, monitoring special diets, and obtaining CACFP Enrollment Forms.
  8. Perform all job duties to ensure the program will remain in compliance with all Federal and State Performance Standards, Department of Education Rules and Regulations and Dept. of Job & Family Services Regulations.
  9. At the discretion of the Early Childhood Director, the driver shall attend meetings, seminars, training sessions, and conferences and shall share that information with other staff.
