Job summary

Community Action Allegan seeks a Head Start Center Assistant to support bus and classroom operations. You will assist with bus duties, meals, and activities while supporting teachers and ensuring child safety.

The role requires a HS diploma or GED, CPR/First Aid, and a TB test. Experience with young children is preferred; related credentials are a plus. This is a full-time/part-year, non-exempt hourly position.

Qualifications

• Previous experience working with young children desired.
• CPR and Basic First Aid certification required.
• An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
• Must pass pre-employment TB test.

Responsibilities

• Rides the bus to/from Centers and assists children getting on/off.
• Ensures children are secured in appropriate restraints on the bus.
• Engages children in songs, stories, and conversations to support development.
• Encourages literacy and language development on the bus.
• Assists in monthly emergency bus evacuation drills with the driver.
• Assists with pre/post-trip inspection and meal service, including cleaning.
• Ensures sanitation procedures during food prep and service are followed.
• Assists teacher with classroom activities as requested.
• Respects and promotes identity of each child and family, without stereotyping.
• Maintains confidentiality about children, families, and staff.
• Attends all scheduled staff meetings and complies with regulations.
• Completes required documentation and performs other duties as assigned.
