Job summary

Hawkeye Area Community Action Program (HACAP) in Dubuque, IA is seeking a Head Start Assistant Teacher (Part-Time Limited Status, 20 hours per week). Schedule is Monday–Friday from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm.

Pay ranges from $18.79 to $21.59 per hour, depending on education and experience. All Assistant Teachers must obtain the Child Development Associate Certification (CDA) within the first year unless they hold an AA in Early Childhood or related degree.

Qualifications

• AA in Early Childhood Education is targeted; High School Diploma (or equivalent) with three months of childcare experience is required.
• Valid ID, reliable transportation, and background checks are required for employment.

Responsibilities

• Support the Teacher in planning, implementing, and maintaining a nurturing educational program.
• Act as designated lead Head Start staff when the Teacher is not present in the classroom.

Position Overview

Job Title: Head Start Assistant Teacher (Part-Time)

Position Type: Part-Time Limited Status, 20 hours per week.

Schedule: Monday - Friday from 11:00 am - 3:00 pm. Part Day/School Year.

Pay Range: $18.79 - $21.59 hourly depending on education and experience.

All Assistant Teachers will need to obtain (if one hasn't already) their Child Development Associate Certification (CDA) within the first year of employment unless they have an Associates of Art Degree in Early Childhood or related degree. HACAP will help guide you in acquiring this certification and once you do your pay will increase to $21.05 per hour.

Position Goal

The Head Start Assistant Teacher supports the Teacher in planning, implementing, and maintaining a nurturing and supportive educational program for participating children. The Assistant Teacher is the designated lead Head Start staff person at times during the day when the teacher is not present in the classroom.

Qualifications & Conditions Of Employment

Education and/or Experience

• Target Qualifications: AA in Early Childhood Education.
• Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma (or equivalent) and three (3) months of experience working in a childcare setting.

Conditions of Employment

• Valid ID.
• Reliable transportation.
• Receive clearance by the Iowa Department of Human Services on child abuse and criminal checks prior to hire and resubmit every two (2) years.
• Pass a pre-employment health examination and subsequent health examinations every three (3) years thereafter.
• Receive clearance through National FBI fingerprint checks. Fingerprints must be submitted for national check prior to hire or start date at the center. Resubmit every four (4) years.
