Job summary

Catholic Charities Community Services is seeking an Assistant Teacher I for our Head Start program in Peoria, AZ. The role involves assisting teachers, supporting a bilingual, multicultural curriculum and helping with assessments and family engagement activities.

The position requires a high school diploma (or equivalent) with CDA/specialized coursework or pursuing ECE studies, plus preferred Spanish or other language skills and basic computer literacy.

Qualifications

• Must demonstrate a positive and caring attitude with initiative and good judgment.
• Familiarity with Head Start standards, requirements, goals and policies.
• Must be able to read and write legibly in English and perform basic math.
• Second language proficiency (Spanish or similar) preferred.
• Sensitivity to cultural differences within the community and program.
• Proficiency in MS Office (Word and Outlook) applications.

Responsibilities

• Assists and supports Teacher and classroom functions to provide quality services to children and families.
• Help implement bilingual, multicultural curriculum and supervise children with Teacher.
• Assist in observations and Education Plan development during the year.
• Support weekly lesson plans and two parent conferences / two home visits.
• Document health information and complete screenings within 45 days of enrollment.
• Assist children with disabilities and adapt as needed; follow CACFP guidelines.
• Participate in emergency drills and maintain a clean, safe classroom.
• May substitute in other classrooms or sites as needed to ensure service delivery.
