PURPOSE OF JOB

The Head Start program at Columbus Park serves 34-36 preschool students and their families. Located inside The Housing Authority’s property management offices, the role of the Assistant Site Supervisor is to provide leadership, oversight, and family advocacy. This position ensures compliance with Head Start Program Performance Standards and safety regulations, supports enrollment, and promotes community engagement.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Supports enrollment and marketing to ensure full funded enrollment, collaborating with ERSEA Coordinator and KCPS leaders.
  2. Supervises teaching staff, monitors instruction quality, and conducts evaluations per HR policies.
  3. Collaborates on hiring and evaluating staff with the Head Start Director, Education Manager, and Instructional Coach.
  4. Ensures safety guidelines are followed, including supervision, ratios, and classroom environment.
  5. Coordinates with property management on safety standards, safety drills, risk reporting, and work orders.
  6. Works with vendors providing nutrition, custodial, and other services.
  7. Communicates effectively with staff, families, and community members of diverse backgrounds.
  8. Creates a positive environment aligned with Head Start, Trauma Smart, and Conscious Discipline philosophies.
  9. Facilitates Family Advocate activities, including Needs Assessments and Partnership Agreements.
  10. Encourages parent involvement and supports parenting curriculum delivery.
  11. Participates in meetings, community events, and workshops to enhance resource awareness and advocacy.
  12. Serves on the Head Start Leadership Team, supporting compliance and continuous improvement.
  13. Participates in required trainings (minimum 15 hours annually).
  14. Follows reporting procedures for abuse, neglect, and contagious diseases.
  15. Utilizes district and Head Start software effectively, maintaining confidentiality and timely paperwork.
  16. Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s Degree with 24+ hours in early childhood education or relevant experience.
  • At least 5 years of early childhood education center director experience or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of Head Start and licensing standards preferred.
  • Supportive supervisory skills.
  • Successful background checks, physical, and TB screening.
  • Agreement to participate in Family Development Credential if applicable.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Familiarity with community resources.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Must be able to sit, stand, walk, speak, hear, use hands, lift children up to 40 pounds, and perform outdoor activities in various weather conditions. Visual acuity required.
