Job description

The head coach will coordinate all aspects of Vanderbilt Athletics’ Spirit Program, including cheer, dance, and mascot. Responsibilities include leading practices, student-athlete development, academic progress, budget management, and overseeing all team activities. The coach will manage gameday duties at various sports events, coordinate community and campus appearances, and recruit potential squad members while promoting school spirit and maintaining Vanderbilt Athletics' brand. The position involves overseeing spirit squad members and part-time coaches, with the possibility of hiring a full-time assistant coach. The role reports to the Associate AD of Marketing and receives support from the Senior Associate AD of Fan Experience and Sales.

About the Work Unit:

Vanderbilt University’s Athletics Department aims to develop student-athletes into leaders and champions, emphasizing integrity, character, sportsmanship, and victory. As a charter member of the Southeastern Conference and its only private school, Vanderbilt fields 17 varsity teams (6 men's and 11 women's).

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Lead and organize all practices
  2. Monitor student-athlete development and academic progress of spirit squad members
  3. Organize spirit squad participation at all home and away football games, including bowl travel, and other home events
  4. Manage the spirit squad budget responsibly
  5. Coordinate and oversee the selection process for all spirit areas
  6. Manage gameday duties/functions across sports such as football, basketball, and baseball
  7. Recruit and engage potential spirit squad members, promote school spirit, and uphold Vanderbilt’s brand
  8. Coordinate appearance and revenue opportunities for the Spirit and mascot programs
  9. Engage with alumni and assist with fundraising efforts

Qualifications
