Job summary

Cloquet Public Schools is seeking a Head Softball Coach to lead the high school athletic program, develop athletes' skills, and foster teamwork and growth through mentorship.

The position reports to the athletic director and principals, ensuring compliance with policies, promoting sportsmanship, and building a positive team culture while coordinating practices, game plans, and student-athlete academic progress.

Qualifications

• Has previous successful coaching experience in assigned sport.
• Has substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of the sport and continues to study new theories.
• Must serve as an appropriate role model for student athletes through instructions and actions.

Responsibilities

• Organize, lead, and oversee all aspects of the athletic program.
• Develop and implement training programs, strategies, and game plans.
• Supervise, support, and mentor assistant and middle school coaches.
• Establish a positive, organized, and inclusive team culture.
• Instruct student-athletes in fundamental skills, strategy, conditioning, and sport-specific techniques.
• Promote sportsmanship, teamwork, leadership, accountability, and character development.
• Monitor and support the academic progress, personal growth, and overall well-being of student-athletes.
• Provide appropriate guidance and mentorship to help student-athletes reach their athletic and personal goals.
• Assist student-athletes with college, career, and advanced educational opportunities when appropriate.
• Team & Game Management: Plan and conduct effective practices, training sessions, and team activities.
• Game management: Manage game-day operations, including player assignments, substitutions, lineups, and game strategy.
• Evaluate athlete performance and adjust practices and game plans accordingly.
• Ensure the team follows league, district, conference, and state policies and expectations.
• Safety & Compliance: implement injury-prevention, health, safety, and emergency-response procedures.
• Maintain participation eligibility and required forms and parental consent.
• Maintain supervision during practices, competitions, travel, and team activities.
