Penn State's Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) seeks a Department Head to lead the Fluids Machinery Department. The role directs a team focused on turbomachinery design, analysis and testing for U.S. Government and industry customers, from concept to hardware.

Mentorship, sponsorship development, and operations leadership are central. This position may be filled as Research and Development Engineer or non-tenure Research Faculty, requiring active leadership and security clearance.

Qualifications

• PhD in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or related field.
• Experience leading technical personnel and managing sponsored programs.
• Strong written and oral communication; ability to develop proposals.
• Experience with turbomachinery, fluid dynamics or cavitation is preferred.
• Ability to obtain a DoD security clearance.

Responsabilités

• Provide organizational leadership to a growing group of engineers.
• Direct technical excellence, cost control and on-time delivery.
• Lead the technical execution of research, design, development and testing of turbomachinery.
• Develop and maintain relationships with sponsors and stakeholders.
• Oversee proposals for new programs and business development.
• Ensure compliance with DoD, university, safety and export controls.
