I am partnering with a private equity–backed renewable energy platform is hiring a Head of Transmission Planning and Interconnection to lead all grid-related strategy and execution across its growing portfolio of utility-scale solar, wind, and storage projects. The business is well-funded, lean, and scaling toward full IPP ownership with a clear focus on quality, technical depth, and long-term asset performance.

The Role:

You will lead all interconnection and transmission planning activities from development through construction, overseeing project queue positions, system impact studies, and coordination with utilities, ISOs, and consultants. This is a strategic, technical, and cross-functional leadership role that will shape interconnection strategy and directly influence project economics and scheduling across a national pipeline.

Key Responsibilities
  • Direct all interconnection strategy and transmission planning activities for a growing renewable portfolio.
  • Prepare and submit interconnection applications, track study milestones, and manage stakeholder engagement with ISOs, RTOs, and utilities.
  • Lead technical assessments including power flow, short circuit, and stability analyses using tools such as PSS/E, PSLF, or PSCAD.
  • Identify and evaluate transmission opportunities through review of expansion plans and queue dynamics.
  • Oversee consultants conducting congestion and curtailment studies to support project selection and financial modeling.
  • Develop conceptual designs and budgets for interconnection facilities and ensure technical alignment through development and construction.
  • Collaborate across development, engineering, and execution teams to optimize project design and scheduling.
  • Provide regular updates to executive leadership on queue positions, risk assessments, and regulatory developments.
What You Bring
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
  • 7+ years of experience in transmission planning, interconnection, or grid studies for utility-scale renewable projects.
  • Proven ability to lead interconnection efforts across multiple ISOs/RTOs and manage complex stakeholder relationships.
  • Working knowledge of FERC and NERC standards, including OATT processes and transmission tariffs.
  • Proficiency in power systems software such as PSS/E, PSLF, and PSCAD.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills with an ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Excellent communication skills and professional integrity when representing the company with utilities, regulators, and partners.
