Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) seeks a Director of Systems Engineering to lead the Infrastructure Services and Architecture team in Worcester. You will oversee servers, storage, cloud environments (AWS, Azure), virtualization, and DevOps, while ensuring security, compliance, and resilience across campus systems.

The role blends strategic leadership with hands-on technical work, reporting to the Assistant CTO. The position is hybrid, with four days on campus and one day remote.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, Information Technology, or related field, or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 7 years in systems, infrastructure, or operations leadership.
• Strong leadership and ability to develop technical staff and manage budgets.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement a comprehensive systems strategy aligned with university goals.
• Lead design, implementation, and management of server, storage, and cloud environments (AWS/Azure).
• Oversee day-to-day systems operations ensuring stability, availability, and performance.
• Direct DevOps, automation, and process improvement initiatives across the org.
• Own security controls, vulnerability remediation, and compliance for systems and middleware.
• Collaborate with Campus Safety and other stakeholders to align technology with campus needs.
