Job description

Raquette Lake Girls Camp is seeking a Head of Dance to live, work and play with us at one of the finest residential summer camps in America. The Head of Dance will be a member of our senior staff and the position comes with appropriate compensation, all expenses covered, private or semi‑private housing, and time off.

Our Dance program is multi‑faceted. We run classes within our daily program that focus on both introduction and refinement of dance skills. Our Head of Dance will lead classes of campers, helping them learn various styles and disciplines. Through dance you will teach them a deeper understanding of body movement, control, discipline & creativity. While the younger campers will have a more introductory teaching program, our older campers can be challenged with a higher level of techniques.

Our Head of Dance should have an extensive personal dance background, a background working with children, and a passion for sharing their love of dance with those children.

This is an 8‑week summer contract beginning with a June 17 arrival date, and a last day of August 13. Full room and board is provided with private or semi‑private accommodations. Salary dependent on experience but can range between $500–750 per week.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Ability to relate to campers ranging from 6‑16
• Ability to relate to one’s peer group
• Ability to accept guidance and supervision
• Good character, integrity and ability to adapt to camp setting
• Enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience and self‑control
• BS or BA in Education a plus

SELECT RESPONSIBILITIES

• Designs, supervises and delivers the Dance program
• Monitors and maintains all equipment, supplies, inventory and cleanliness
• Designs and delivers lesson plans for all Dance activities
• Trains selected staff members to assist with Dance activities
• Initiatives Dance and Drama special events.
• Leads and supports camp programming relating to Dance, including possible DJing of special events
• Give the campers a well‑rounded, fun and engaging, education of dance while keeping in mind they’re campers and majority are non‑dancers.
