Job summary

CAS in Columbus, OH seeks a Manager of Scientific AI Engineering & Data Science to lead a growing team powering CAS Newton℠, CAS Connections, and internal platforms. The role focuses on hiring, coaching, and retention while maintaining technical credibility and collaborating with product and technical leads.

The ideal candidate has 8+ years in AI/ML/data science with leadership experience, and familiarity with LLM-based systems, retrieval, and extraction.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of relevant experience with 3-5+ years in people leadership.
• Hands-on background in AI/ML engineering and data science; direct roadmap ownership not required at this level.
• Familiarity with modern AI engineering — LLMs, agentic systems, retrieval and extraction.
• Experience in scientific, chemical, pharmaceutical, or materials-science domains is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Lead hiring, coaching, and retention for data scientists and AI engineers.
• Provide coaching and career development across levels; shape team growth and culture.
• Balance technical guidance with enabling team, ensuring resources and health of the team.
• Represent the team’s work to internal and external audiences and collaborate with product and tech leads.
• Drive cross-cutting initiatives and enterprise-wide thinking beyond direct reports.
