Head of Safety, Health, Wellbeing and Environment (SHWE) - Energy
Location: Rugby / Hybrid
Talented people are the key to our success
With our energy sector in an exciting period of significant growth, we are strengthening our SHEQ leadership team to ensure that we are ready and fit for the future.
Growth will not become an excuse for us; it will not affect our Protecting People commitment and expectations. This applies equally to safety, health, wellbeing, environment and quality standards.
To ensure that our operational teams are suitably supported, we will need equal focus on firstly, the processes and training that support our operational teams to deliver, and secondly, on bringing Protecting People to life through the behaviours and operational execution we expect from our people and supply chain.
To enable this vision, we are looking to appoint an inspiring
Head of Safety, Health, Wellbeing and Environment (SHWE), who will focus on how we achieve transformational performance and behaviours in embedding Protecting People and Protecting the Environment throughout our people and supply chain.
The Role
This is a functional leadership role, responsible for defining, delivering, and continuously improving our SHWE strategy. You will be an important member of the Business Unit’s Senior Management Team (SMT), reporting to the Energy Managing Director.

- Identify and drive improvements, aiming for best-in-class practices across SHWE disciplines.
- Inspire and lead a high-performing SHWE team, fostering a culture of accountability, learning, and continuous improvement.
- Offer expert advice and guidance to managers, employees, subcontractors, and partners.
- Ensure robust and transparent reporting across SHWE matters, enabling data-led decision-making.
- Champion a proactive, integrated approach to mental health, wellbeing, and occupational health within a high-hazard sector.
- Support bid and tender teams by contributing to SHWE elements of PQQs and proposals.
The Candidate
We’re looking for an experienced SHWE/SHEQ leader who brings a blend of strategic thinking, operational excellence, and genuine people leadership. You’ll have a visible presence across our sites and projects and be passionate about shaping our Protecting People culture where everyone goes home safe, every day.
