Job summary

Neara is seeking a Principal Research Scientist, Risk to lead our internal research group focused on system resilience, reliability, and policy. You will define a research agenda, develop rigorous models, and translate findings into tools for utilities investing billions in capital expenditure.

We provide data on network-scale overhead systems and offer a path to shape Neara’s long-term product roadmap, analytics standards, and advisory services.

Qualifications

• PhD in statistics, applied math, physics, CS, OR, engineering.
• Proven track record leading a substantial research program as group leader or principal.
• Experience building technical teams and setting research direction.
• Extensive experience in probabilistic modeling, UQ, model validation and scientific computing.
• Experience modeling operational systems related to insurance, weather, outages or reliability.

Responsibilities

• Lead Neara’s applied research function for infrastructure risk and resilience.
• Direct a team of researchers and set rigorous standards for risk modeling and uncertainty quantification.
• Develop predictive models for equipment damage, vegetation failure, outage likelihood and duration.
• Design decision models quantifying consequences of resilience investments and network redesign.
• Quantify the value of data from inspections and remote sensing capabilities.
