Job summary

Neara is advancing AI-driven digital twins of electricity grids and seeks a Geospatial Data Scientist in Houston to collaborate with a regional utility. You will leverage LiDAR, GIS, asset records, and weather data to prototype physics-backed models and mitigate wildfire risk while informing capital investment decisions.

You will embed with customers, build robust spatial data pipelines, and mentor peers, shaping a scalable, data-driven product suite as Neara scales globally.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of hands-on experience in data science or ML; geospatial domain preferred.
• Experience with LiDAR, GIS data, and weather datasets.
• Strong communication skills and experience presenting to customers and leaders.
• Experience in fast-growing tech environments is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Embed with customer geospatial and GIS teams in a hybrid setting to understand data workflows and integrate systems.
• Build predictive risk models using LiDAR, terrain, and weather data to assess wildfire and grid risks.
• Translate spatial/structural risk metrics into data-driven insights for grid hardening and investments.
• Build and maintain spatial data pipelines to ingest and integrate geospatial data from the partner.
• Establish QA/QC benchmarks for spatial accuracy and CRS transformations.
• Mentor teams on model training, data analytics, and building data-driven products.
