Job summary

The City of New York Mayor’s Office is seeking a Director of Research for the Office of Community Safety to lead the research, evaluation, and evidence-building agenda, ensuring agency strategies, programs, and investments are informed by data, research, and community knowledge.

You will supervise and develop a high-performing team, design evaluation frameworks, synthesize findings into actionable recommendations, and collaborate with city agencies, researchers, and community partners to drive

Qualifications

• Master's degree required
• 5+ years of progressively responsible experience in research, evaluation, data analysis, performance management, public policy, or related field
• Strong written communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills

Responsibilities

• Lead the development of a portfolio of research and evaluation projects aligned with Office priorities and goals.
• Monitor and synthesize emerging research and evidence relevant to community safety and related fields.
• Design and oversee evaluations of Office programs to assess implementation, outcomes, and impact.
• Translate evaluation findings into actionable recommendations to strengthen programs and inform policy decisions.
• Manage relationships with external researchers, evaluators, and academic institutions to ensure successful project completion.
• Support agency performance management, reporting, and continuous improvement efforts.
