Job summary

Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium seeks a strategic Director of Reproductive Sciences and Conservation Genetics to guide applied science across two campuses. You will lead reproductive biology and genetics initiatives, manage a diverse team, and foster external partnerships to advance species conservation.

Reporting to the Vice President of Science and Animal Health, you will oversee budgets, grants, and compliance while promoting an inclusive, high-trust culture and mentoring staff for growth.

Qualifications

• Advanced degree required (PhD, DVM or equivalent).
• Proven leadership experience managing a diverse scientific team.

Responsibilities

• Lead multi-disciplinary, integrated efforts for scientific advancement in support of organizational conservation goals.
• Oversee budgets, including approval of expenditures, ongoing budget tracking, and annual budget preparation.
• Identify priority financial needs and seek/secure support for ongoing and new programs by submitting proposals to granting institutions.
• Grow research and conservation partnerships with internal and external stakeholders.
• Mentor and develop team through individual development plans and regular check-ins.
• Collaborate with Animal Care, Animal Health, Nutrition, and Conservation Genetics to integrate research with population management.
