Job summary

Southwestern Law School in Los Angeles seeks a full-time Associate Professor (Non-Tenure-Track) library faculty member to serve as Head of Reference in the Public Services team.

The Head manages the Reference Department, supervises librarians, and coordinates research instruction for the JD programs, including online options. The role entails teaching, outreach, and service within a hybrid work schedule with on-campus presence.

Qualifications

• J.D. or equivalent degree from an accredited institution.
• MLS degree or its equivalent from an accredited institution.
• Minimum five (5) years of public service experience in an academic law library with supervisory duties or potential for rapid growth into supervisory duties.
• Minimum three (3) years’ experience teaching legal research in an academic setting.
• Proven track record of active engagement in scholarship, teaching, and/or professional service.

Responsibilities

• Oversee Reference Department and supervise reference librarians.
• Coordinate research instruction during students’ 1L year.
• Develop and assess instructional and outreach activities.
• Collaborate on strategic, long-term library planning with departments.
• Teach in J.D. programs, including Online J.D., as needed.
