About the Department:

The Antonin Scalia Law School strives to be a national leader in legal education; applying tools of economics and other social sciences to the study of legal doctrine, process, and institutions. The Law School prepares students to practice law in a broad range of public and private sector organizations within the Commonwealth and around the country. In addition, it produces academic scholarship that expands society's understanding of law and legal institutions with a special focus on using economic tools and methods to do so.

About the Position:

The primary purpose of law faculty is to provide effective teaching to Juris Doctor students, produce original scholarly works for publication, and provide service, including leadership, through participation in governance, and operational or development activities in the Law School, the university, and/or the legal profession. Additionally, in accordance with ABA law school accreditation standards, law faculty share with the dean the primary responsibility and authority for planning, implementing, and administering the program of legal education; selection, retention, promotion and tenure of faculty; and determining educational policy.

Term Instructional Professor Responsibilities:

Teaching

• Designs course curricula, prepares for classes, is available for consultation about those classes, assesses student performance in those classes, and remains current in subjects being taught in accordance with ABA standards. Effective teaching requires a combination of course and curricular materials, developed learning outcomes, and thoughtful assignments and assessments designed to promote student learning.

Service

• Engages in service to the Law School and university community, participates in governance of the law school as requested/allowed, curricular development, and other institutional responsibilities as required by ABA accreditation standards;
• Provides service to the profession, works with judges and practicing lawyers to improve the profession; and
• Provides service to the public including participation in pro bono activities. Examples include, but are not limited to, attendance at faculty meetings; curricular development; support for co-curricular student experiences; committee participation; leadership in professional organizations.

Law Library Director Responsibilities:

• Provides strategic leadership for the law library's instructional and research support programs;
• Teaches assigned law school courses or is embedded within other courses, including legal research in LRWA I, II, III, and IV, Scholarly Writing, and advanced legal research courses, and other applicable courses within the instructor's area(s) of interest and expertise; teaches workshops and other pedagogical sessions offered by the Library;
• Collaborates with faculty to integrate research skills and information literacy competencies throughout the law school curriculum;
• Oversees the development of the library's instructional services and materials to faculty, students, staff, alumni, and the local bar;
• Coordinates law school efforts training students in the effective use of legal databases, artificial intelligence tools, and emerging technologies relevant to legal practice;
• Provides research consultations to support student academic work;
• Supervises and mentors law librarians and other instructional personnel engaged in teaching activities;
• May support the work of a Library RA(s);
• Participates in faculty governance through attendance and participation in faculty meetings and service on standing law school and/or university committees, including as a voting member on the law school's Library Faculty and Technology Committee;
• Prepares for and attends faculty meetings as a limited voting member;
• Serves on law school and/or university committees, as assigned;
• Provides library and research updates to the full faculty, as needed;
• Participates in law school events in support of students, prospective students, faculty, and alumni engagement;
• Provides strategic leadership for the law library in support of the law school's mission and goals;
• Ensures compliance with applicable ABA standards relating to library resources and services;
• Directs all operations of the law library, including services, collections, facilities, technology, and personnel;
• Develops and manages the Library & Technology budget to: Direct the growth and development of the collection, physical plant, and equipment to support the instructional, research, and service missions of the law school;
• Provides personnel and services to support the instructional, research, and service missions of the law school;
• Supports faculty research, scholarship, and publication efforts;
• Works with Head of Technical Services and Collections Development to Negotiate contracts and licenses with publishers, database vendors, and service providers;
• Evaluates and implement emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence and legal analytics tools;
• Sets and communicates library policies and procedures to all stakeholders;
• Establishes performance expectations and professional development opportunities for library employees;
• Manages staffing levels and organizational structure to meet evolving institutional needs;
• Assists in managing the law school's listservs and generic email accounts;
• Represents the library on matters related to Library & Technology within the law school and university, and to external consortia and professional organizations;
• Participates in professional development and contributes to the law librarian profession; and
• Other duties related to the position as assigned that help the department achieve its objectives and goals and/or support the mission of the Law School as determined by the employee's supervisor.

Required Qualifications:
