Head of R&D Strategic Partnerships - Remote

Job Summary

The Head of Strategic R&D Partnerships is responsible for identifying, developing, and managing strategic partnerships that advance Emergent BioSolutions' Research & Development (R&D) objectives. Reporting to the Head of R&D, this role ensures strong, effective relationships with key external stakeholders, including government agencies, NGOs, academic institutions, and industry partners. The individual will serve as a key external representative of Emergent's R&D efforts, requiring technical credibility, strategic acumen, and engagement with senior officials across sectors. Internally, this role fosters collaboration across the organization.

This position requires a deep understanding of the biopharmaceutical R&D landscape, the ability to navigate complex partnerships, and a results-oriented mindset. The ideal candidate is adaptable, possesses strong communication and negotiation skills, and can effectively advocate for Emergent's R&D priorities while building long-term, mutually beneficial partnerships. Leadership, problem-solving capabilities, proactivity, and the ability to identify and act on collaboration opportunities are essential.

Strategic Partnership Development
  • Identify, map, and assess potential strategic partners for Emergent's R&D efforts, including government entities, academic institutions, research centers, and industry collaborators.
  • Develop and implement a partnership strategy aligned with Emergent's R&D and corporate goals.
  • Build and maintain high-level relationships with external stakeholders as a trusted representative.
  • Manage existing collaborations, seeking opportunities to expand or optimize partnerships.
  • Evaluate new alliance opportunities that align with innovation and R&D strategies.
Internal and External Stakeholder Engagement
  • Serve as a liaison between Emergent and external partners, ensuring effective communication and collaboration.
  • Work with internal teams to align partnership efforts with corporate priorities.
  • Provide insights to senior leadership on engagement opportunities and risks.
  • Collaborate on partnership agreements, joint research, and funding initiatives.
  • Represent Emergent at scientific meetings, conferences, and forums.
Operational Excellence & Execution
  • Establish tracking and management systems for partnerships, clarifying objectives and deliverables.
  • Develop reporting mechanisms to assess partnership value and effectiveness.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory, legal, and governance standards.
  • Foster a collaborative, transparent internal environment.

Minimum Education, Experience, Skills
  • Advanced degree in Life Sciences, Business, or related field (Ph.D., M.D., or MBA preferred).
  • Minimum 10+ years in the biopharmaceutical industry, with experience in strategic partnerships, R&D, or business development.
  • Ability to engage effectively with senior government officials, NGO leaders, and academics.
  • Strong understanding of the global R&D ecosystem, funding, regulatory, and industry trends.
  • Exceptional communication, negotiation, and relationship management skills.
  • Technical credibility to represent Emergent's pipeline and capabilities.
  • Ability to navigate complex dynamics and foster collaboration.
  • Adaptability, proactivity, and experience in fast-paced environments.
  • Experience managing cross-functional partnerships and stakeholder engagement.
  • Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills.
Compensation & Benefits

The estimated annual salary ranges from $234,500 to $283,700, depending on education, experience, skills, and location. Additional incentives such as bonuses or stock options may apply.
