Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine is recruiting a Director, Physical AI for Autonomous Discovery to join our In Silico Drug Discovery team, with Spring House, PA as the preferred location and no remote option. The role blends AI, robotics, and lab automation to enable autonomous experiments across Design‑Make‑Test‑Analyze cycles.

The position reports to leadership in Innovative Medicine, collaborates with automation, data science, and discovery scientists, and requires a PhD plus deep AI

Qualifications

• PhD in AI/ML or related field.
• Experience building AI systems for physical or scientific environments.
• Strong software development in Python and ML frameworks.
• Ability to translate scientific/operational requirements to robust AI models across multidisciplinary teams.

Responsabilités

• Define and execute the Physical AI strategy and lead a high-performing team.
• Develop AI models for instruments, samples, reagents, robotics, workflows, and lab state.
• Build adaptive experimental optimization using active learning, Bayesian optimization, RL, and multi-objective optimization.
• Create systems for anomaly detection, root-cause assessment, and recovery actions with human escalation.
• Design agentic and multi-agent systems coordinating experiment planning and data interpretation.
