Job summary

Canonical is seeking a Software Engineering Manager to lead the Ubuntu Foundations Package Management team. This role blends technical leadership with people management, guiding engineers responsible for package management and system lifecycle technologies underpinning Ubuntu.

You will work with stakeholders across Ubuntu Engineering and collaborate with Debian and open source communities, while growing engineering talent and driving roadmap execution.

Qualifications

• Proven track record of leading software engineering teams with delivery responsibility.
• Strong background in systems software and OS architecture.
• Experience with Linux distribution technologies and packaging infrastructure.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to work with globally distributed teams.

Responsibilities

• Define the technical vision and roadmap for Ubuntu’s package management and system lifecycle platform.
• Lead and mentor a team of engineers; foster ownership and cross-team collaboration.
• Drive delivery improvements across Ubuntu release cycles and ensure reliability and maintainability.
• Collaborate with Ubuntu Engineering, Debian/upstream projects, and the wider open source community.
