Agog, a groundbreaking philanthropic organization at the intersection of technology, communications, and social impact, is seeking a Head of Marketing & Communications to help us tell the story of immersive media and how these emerging communications tools can accelerate the impact of mission-based work in the U.S. and elsewhere.
About The Role
Agog is seeking an experienced and creative Head of Marketing and Communications to build our marcom function, enhance our public presence, and drive audience engagement. We’re looking for a skilled communications leader to spearhead our efforts to amplify our impact and lift up the field of XR for social good—helping new audiences discover and embrace the potential of immersive media.
This is a U.S.-based , remote role with a strong preference for candidates based in Seattle, LA, the Bay Area, or New York City.
Strategy And Leadership Responsibilities
Reporting to the Chief of Programs & Strategy, the Head of Marketing & Communications will contribute to Agog’s mission across the following areas:
- Develop and execute a comprehensive marketing and communications strategy to enhance Agog’s visibility, engagement, and impact.
- Collaborate across the team to ensure marketing and communications efforts align with organizational goals and programmatic priorities.
- Contribute to Agog’s multi-year strategic plan from a marketing and communications perspective, helping to shape Agog’s future growth and influence in the XR ecosystem.
- Act as a strategic advisor to the Executive Director and senior leadership, providing insights on audience engagement, media trends, and brand impact.
- Implement regular feedback practices that support learning and alignment across teams.
- Use best practices to build, manage, and develop an inclusive strategic communications program.
Management Responsibilities
- Translate strategic goals into workplans and establish KPIs to build alignment and measure impact.
- Manage marketing and communications team, including a communications agency and at least one direct report.
- Oversee Agog’s brand, voice, and visuals, and ensure that Agog’s messaging aligns with our mission and values.
- Identify and support thought leadership opportunities—such as speaking engagements, op-eds, and white papers—leveraging the voices and platforms of leadership.
- Direct internal and external contributors across web development, design, social media, and editorial content.
- Collaborate with grantees and other partners to identify opportunities to elevate their work and the field of immersive media for good.
- Partner with a communications agency to refine messaging and identify opportunities to position Agog as a thought-leader.
- Drive annual planning and budgeting processes for the marketing and communications function.
Field-Building Responsibilities
- Act as an ambassador for XR within the mission-based and philanthropic communications sectors.
- Build relationships and identify opportunities to collaborate with other communications leaders in the nonprofit sector.
- Position Agog as a thought leader and resource within the broader communications landscape.
Desired Knowledge & Experience. The Ideal Candidate Will Have
- Demonstrated ability to lead strategic marketing and communications—including content, public relations, and brand strategies—preferably in technology, media, social impact, or philanthropy
- Strong knowledge of mission-based communications with the ability to quickly understand and evaluate emerging cultural, social-justice, political, and technical trends
- Experience managing external firms and contractors, as well as internal teams
- Exceptional writing skills and design sensibility, with the ability to meet and/or direct others to meet an top-tier editorial and creative bar
- Highly collaborative and strategic mindset
- Exemplary emotional intelligence and cultural humility, demonstrating self-awareness, empathy, and respect for diverse perspectives
- A startup mentality; comfortable being all-hands-on-deck, navigating ambiguity, and diving into the details of the work
- Demonstrated ability to partner with high-profile senior leadership is a strong plus
- Understanding of XR and/or a background in any of Agog’s focus areas—climate change, food justice, Indigenous knowledge, and human rights—is a strong plus
- Flexibility to travel as needed for conferences/festivals, team meetings, trainings, and events
- Genuine excitement and optimism about the potential for XR to change our world for the better
$200,000 - $250,000 a year
