BlackSky is a real-time intelligence company seeking a Vice President of Legal to lead a team providing legal support for product development, U.S. and international government contracting, and commercial transactions.

The role reports to the Chief Administrative Officer/General Counsel, with limited travel to Herndon, VA and occasional international travel when needed. The candidate will manage a small legal team, advise senior leadership, draft complex agreements, ensure regulatory compliance,

Qualifications

• Juris Doctorate with 10+ years' experience.
• Space or defense sector experience (≥4 years).
• US government contracts experience (≥4 years) at top law firms, agencies, or in-house.
• Active license to practice law and in good standing.
• Experience negotiating/drafting complex government and commercial contracts.
• Ability to lead a small legal/contract team daily.
• Strong organizational and communication skills.
• Experience with government contracting (FAR/DFARS) and space/defense programs.
• Experience with licensing and software agreements.

Responsibilities

• Manage a small internal legal team and oversee regulatory, export, US government and international contracts.
• Serve as senior legal advisor to the General Counsel and leadership.
• Provide guidance on contract analysis, governance, finance, and regulatory compliance.
• Lead SOX activities, audits and investigations where applicable.
• Negotiate, draft, and manage complex policies and commercial/strategic agreements.
• Support joint ventures, international contracts, and business development decisions.
• Oversee litigation strategy and coordinate with outside counsel.
• Mentor and develop the legal team.
