About the Role
ShopMy is on the hunt for a sharp, business-savvy Senior Counsel to join as our first in-house legal hire. You’ll be stepping into a pivotal role, owning key legal functions across the business as we scale rapidly. From advising leadership on strategic decisions to protecting our brand and people, this is your opportunity to build a best-in-class legal foundation at the intersection of tech, commerce, and creator marketing.

This role touches everything from commercial contracts to IP strategy, employment law to privacy regulation—and you’ll have a seat at the table as we grow and evolve. We’re looking for someone who’s fluent in the realities of high-growth companies, thrives in ambiguity, and is excited to roll up their sleeves and build for scale.

What You’ll Do

Commercial Contracts & Strategic Negotiations

• Own contract strategy across the business—drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a wide variety of commercial agreements (SaaS, influencer/brand deals, tech and vendor contracts, etc.)
• Serve as a trusted partner to internal teams, balancing legal risk with business impact
  Liaise with external counsel responsibly and cost-effectively

Legal Strategy & Business Partnership

• Provide pragmatic, actionable legal advice across departments—product, ops, HR, marketing, partnerships, and beyond
• Support corporate transactions including M&A, investments, and strategic partnerships
• Advise on new business initiatives, from launch to scale

Privacy, Risk & Compliance

• Stay ahead of changing regulations and ensure compliance with privacy, consumer protection, and advertising/marketing laws (GDPR, CCPA, FTC, etc.)
• Draft and implement clear, scalable policies to manage risk and keep us ahead of regulatory shifts

Intellectual Property & Brand Protection

• Advise on trademark, copyright, licensing, and IP strategy to protect our brand and content
• Partner closely with marketing and product teams to navigate IP and advertising laws
  
  

Employment & People Operations Support

• Provide guidance on employment law matters including hiring, terminations, policies and contractor classifications (especially NY/CA law)

Dispute Management & Litigation Strategy

• Proactively manage potential disputes and litigation, including working with external counsel
  Help protect the business and reputation through thoughtful issue spotting and resolution
  
  

What You Bring

• J.D. from a top accredited law school and active bar membership (NY preferred)
  
  
• 6+ years of legal experience, ideally with a mix of law firm and in-house roles at high-growth companies
  
  
• Strong command of commercial contracts, privacy law, IP, and corporate governance
  
  
• Experience in e-commerce, SaaS, tech, or creator economy environments
  
  
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills—you make legal feel human
  
  
• A builder’s mindset: you’re not just advising, you’re creating scalable legal infrastructure
  
  

Bonus Points For

• Experience with international markets or supporting IPO readiness
  
  
• Familiarity with AI-related legal developments
  
  
• Deep expertise in employment law (especially California and New York)
  
  
• Comfort navigating the gray areas of social media, influencer marketing, and digital advertising

The provided salary range is a good faith estimate of cash compensation but is flexible pending candidate experience and how our business needs evolve throughout the search

New York Pay Range

$200,000—$225,000 USD
