Job summary

The SMFA at Tufts University is seeking a Director, Fine Arts Studios & Academic Space Management to lead a team of approximately 14 professional studio staff and oversee operations for about 21 studios, labs, classrooms, and learning spaces.

Reporting to the Senior Director of Educational, Student and Alumni Services, you will partner with the Dean and school leadership to translate strategic priorities into operational excellence, while ensuring access, safety, and innovation in our spaces

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree and 10+ years of progressive management experience.
• Experience leading teams in academic, creative, arts, cultural, studio, or similarly specialized environments.
• Experience guiding organizational change, strategic initiatives, or service improvements across complex stakeholder environments.
• Demonstrated success building and developing high-performing, collaborative teams.
• Strong communication, organizational, project management, and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead planning, operations, and continuous improvement for studios, labs, classrooms, and spaces across SMFA.
• Partner with the Dean, faculty, and leadership to align learning environments with educational priorities.
• Provide leadership on space planning, utilization, and facilities needs.
• Develop and mentor a team of studio staff, fostering accountability and collaboration.
• Translate strategic priorities into actionable plans supporting teaching, learning, and artistic practice.
• Oversee budget planning, resource allocation, and equipment investments for studios and spaces.
• Develop policies and service models that ensure equitable access, safety, and innovation.
• Collaborate with TTS and university stakeholders to enhance services and continuity.
• Participate in the TTS leadership community and cross-functional initiatives.
• Build partnerships among faculty, students, administrators, and leaders.
• Use data and feedback to evaluate services and drive improvements.
