Job description

About Alchemy Springs

Alchemy Springs is a social bathhouse inspired by nature's elements in San Francisco. Tucked away in a stunning urban landscape, we've created a space where nature's elements—heat, water, earth and air—combine with human connection to create magical moments.

As a startup, Alchemy Springs offers the opportunity to get in early and be part of building something meaningful. Our mission is simple: To create sanctuaries where genuine connection and well-being overcome the isolation of modern life.

Job Description

The Head of Facilities owns the operation, maintenance, service and repair of all building systems at Alchemy Springs, in support of guest satisfaction, cost control and profitability. The role leads the Preventative Maintenance program, manages the facilities budget and vendor bench, and holds our public and back-of-house spaces to the standard guests expect from a wellness environment.

This is a leadership role with one direct report, the Gardening & Maintenance Technician, and a roster of specialist vendors. First-line emergency response outside business hours sits with the Gardening & Maintenance Technician. The Head of Facilities is the escalation contact and covers the on-call rotation when that role is off.

Systems managed: thermal pools and water treatment, boilers, HVAC, sauna, steam room, plumbing and electrical, fire and life safety, pest control, and general building infrastructure.

Reports to: General Manager

Direct report: Gardening & Maintenance Technician

Key Responsibilities
Daily Operations & Maintenance
  • Lead the facilities program to maintain pristine aesthetics throughout the venue's amenities, technical features and back-of-house areas, while improving and adapting standards and processes
  • Project manage, delegate and participate in repairs, improvements and updates to the venue
  • Own the repair ticketing system: triage incoming tickets, set priorities, assign work and communicate timelines to the relevant team members
  • Focus the facilities function on guest service scores through proactive maintenance and swift issue resolution
Team & Vendor Leadership
  • Manage, schedule and develop the Gardening & Maintenance Technician
  • Build and maintain the vendor bench, including pool plant service, equipment specialists and after-hours trades
  • Negotiate and manage service contracts, and hold vendors to scope, response time and quality
  • Coordinate and schedule walkthroughs, inspections and repairs
  • Establish ongoing training so every Bathhouse Manager can maintain basic upkeep of areas and equipment
Planning, Budget & Improvement
  • Develop and execute improvement and repair proposals with established timelines and budgets
  • Own the repairs and maintenance budget, and report variances to the General Manager
  • Create and maintain comprehensive preventative maintenance schedules to avoid system failures
  • Troubleshoot and develop long-term solutions for operational and technical issues that affect the guest experience
  • Track Facilities department inventory needs and order supplies while remaining within budget
Emergency Escalation
  • Serve as the escalation contact for after-hours issues that exceed the scope of the on-call technician
  • Cover the primary on-call rotation during the technician's time off, approximately four weeks a year
  • Coordinate emergency repairs and communicate with the management team during crisis situations
  • Maintain emergency contact lists and procedures for vendors and contractors
  • Run a root-cause review whenever after-hours call-outs exceed three in a month
Safety & Compliance
  • Keep M.S.D. sheets current and easily accessible
  • Maintain proper safety and sanitary protocols and procedures
  • Help create and co-manage the Safety Committee, and coordinate fire drills
  • Train all employees on safety procedures and emergency protocols
  • Ensure compliance with all local health department and safety regulations, including pool water records
Facility Management
  • Conduct daily facilities checks of the entire building
  • Monitor lighting, sound systems and amenity spaces throughout operational hours
  • Coordinate closely with the operations team to ensure seamless guest experiences
  • Perform other duties as requested by the General Manager
