Job summary

Roto seeks an experienced Design Director to lead multidisciplinary teams in designing museums, aquariums, zoos, science centers, and other experience-driven environments. You will guide projects from concept through detailed design, mentoring teammates and collaborating with clients to deliver engaging experiences.

In this role, you’ll balance storytelling with operational needs and budget, oversee sketches, plans, and presentations, and champion a culture of curiosity and design excellence

Qualifications

• 10+ years in exhibit or environmental design.
• A portfolio showing spatial storytelling and visitor focus.
• Experience leading multidisciplinary creative teams.
• Strong presentation and client facilitation skills.
• Mentoring designers and growing talents.

Responsibilities

• Lead creative vision for exhibit and experience design projects.
• Guide multidisciplinary teams of designers and specialists.
• Develop concepts balancing storytelling, visitor engagement, and budget.
• Create sketches, diagrams, models, and presentations.
• Present ideas to clients and facilitate design discussions.
• Mentor emerging designers and foster a curious, collaborative culture.
• Balance multiple projects with quality, schedule, and resources.
