Job summary

AppFolio, Inc. is seeking a Director of Enterprise Risk to mature and integrate our ERM program and lead the Technology Compliance function. You will build a new Risk Analysis capability and partner with first-line teams to accelerate risk-informed decisions.

The role requires strong leadership, COSO experience, and effective executive communication. Based in the US with offices in CA, the role focuses on evolving risk management across SOX/SOC controls, reporting to the Risk & Compliance

Qualifications

• 5+ years of progressive experience in enterprise risk management, internal audit, GRC, or technology compliance, including direct people-leadership experience.
• Deep, hands-on understanding of enterprise risk frameworks and the three-lines-of-defense model (COSO ERM), with ERM program maturity experience.
• Proven ownership of technology compliance and audit readiness (SOX and/or SOC), liaising with auditors.
• Excellent executive communication and stakeholder-management skills, reporting to senior leadership or a Board committee.

Responsibilities

• Mature and integrate ERM framework and program with senior leaders and cross-functional stakeholders.
• Build a new Risk Analysis capability coordinating risk identification, assessment, and monitoring.
• Lead Technology Compliance, policies, monitoring, and audit readiness for SOX and SOC.
• Establish rolling risk-identification cadence to surface emerging risks in real time.
• Partner with R&D, Product, and Engineering to embed risk-informed decision-making into workflows.
• Support reporting to the Board and communicate ERM updates to the RCOC.
• Advance three-lines-of-defense and align ERM activity with OKRs and operating model.
