Job summary

Abacus Business Computer (ABCPOS) seeks a hands-on Head of Engineering to lead the next stage of our engineering transformation. You will own the reliability, scalability, security, and architectural direction of our restaurant SaaS platform, including POS, payments, online ordering, and reporting.

You will mentor engineers, review designs, and collaborate with Product Management and Exec Leadership to modernize the stack and enable AI-enabled operations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• 10+ years of software engineering experience.
• 5+ years leading engineering teams in a SaaS environment.
• Experience building and scaling cloud-based software platforms.
• Strong knowledge of distributed systems, microservices, APIs, databases, and system architecture.
• Experience with AWS, containerized applications, CI/CD, monitoring, observability, and DevOps best practices.
• Experience leading engineering organizations through platform modernization and technical transformation.
• Strong communication, leadership, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
• Experience with AI-assisted software development is a plus.

Responsibilities

Position Overview

We are seeking a hands-on Head of Engineering to lead the next stage of our engineering transformation.

You will be responsible for the reliability, scalability, security, and technical direction of our restaurant SaaS platform, including POS, payment processing, online ordering, kitchen operations, reporting, loyalty, and multi-location management.

This role is ideal for an experienced engineering leader who enjoys solving complex technical challenges, building high-performing engineering teams, and delivering reliable software that powers mission-critical business operations.

You will work closely with Product Management and Executive Leadership to modernize our technology stack, improve engineering processes, and build the foundation for AI-enabled restaurant operations.

This is not a pure management role. We are looking for a leader who is comfortable making architectural decisions, mentoring engineers, reviewing designs and code, improving engineering discipline, and helping the team solve difficult technical problems.
