A leading tech company is seeking a Head of Developer Relations & Documentation to shape engagement with developers through advocacy, education, and open-source contributions. The successful candidate will lead a team and collaborate across departments to align developer-facing programs with company goals. This role offers flexibility and the opportunity to work in a global remote environment.
At Timescale, we empower businesses with real-time insights from their data, allowing them to make faster decisions and optimize operations. We are creating a movement to unblock developers who are building the future. Timescale is a product-led growth organization driven by transparent leaders and a globally diverse, remote-first team that is proudly building a modern PostgreSQL cloud platform.
Timescale is the cloud-native PostgreSQL platform trusted by thousands of developers to build modern applications—real-time, time-series, and AI. Built on Postgres, designed for scale and reliability, Timescale powers production workloads across startups and the enterprise.
Our users are engineers. They value clarity, credibility, and performance. We meet them with content, community, and education that earn their trust—and help them build faster, smarter, and with confidence.
We’re hiring a Head of Developer Relations & Documentation to lead the way Timescale shows up for developers—through content, community, advocacy, education, and open-source contributions.
This is a player-coach role. You’ll lead a team of senior ICs—developer advocates, community builders, editors, and technical writers—while also contributing directly as a creator, engineer, and open-source participant.
You’ll work in tight partnership with Product, Product Marketing, and Engineering, ensuring developer-facing programs align to the roadmap and go-to-market strategy. You’ll also coordinate across the broader Marketing team to connect your work to brand, awareness, and funnel goals.
As part of this role, you will be expected to contribute to Timescale’s open-source projects—and foster a team culture where open-source contributions are a core part of DevRel and documentation work. Your team won’t just write about Timescale—they’ll build with it and for it.
Team Leadership: Manage and coach a team of senior ICs across DevRel, community, docs, and editorial
Open Source Participation:
Personally contribute to Timescale's open-source ecosystem (e.g., TimescaleDB, pgvectorscale, integrations)
Set a team-wide expectation of regular, meaningful OSS contributions—from bug fixes to examples to docs improvements
Developer Community: Own and scale Timescale’s developer community programs:
High-touch: Champions, contributors, OSS collaborators
Low-touch: Forums, async channels, scalable content, self-serve support
Technical Content & Education: Oversee strategy and execution for blog posts, tutorials, integrations, demos, and onboarding content
Documentation Strategy: Lead efforts to improve structure, IA, onboarding flows, and overall documentation experience
Cross-functional Alignment: Work closely with PMM, Product, and Engineering to ensure content and community efforts support roadmap and product adoption
Execution: Be a high-impact IC—write content, contribute code, engage developers, give talks, support community
Systems & Metrics: Build frameworks to measure developer engagement, community health, OSS impact, and feedback loops into product
Have led Developer Relations and/or Documentation teams at developer-first companies (infra, OSS, tools, platforms)
Have managed senior ICs and know how to lead with context, not control
Are a builder and contributor: you don’t just advocate—you publish, fix, improve, and engage
Have contributed to open-source projects yourself and understand how to lead DevRel in OSS-native environments
Are a strong cross-functional operator—deeply collaborative with PM, PMM, and Eng
Have experience building and scaling developer community programs (high-touch + low-touch)
Can explain complex technical concepts clearly and credibly—whether in writing or live demos
Have experience with database systems, time-series data, real-time apps, or ML/AI infra
Engineering background
Deep familiarity with databases and/or OSS contributor dynamics
Built partner and integration ecosystems
Led or scaled documentation and learning content programs
You can’t travel
You prefer a narrow, hands-off leadership role over active contribution and coaching
You’re not comfortable working in or contributing to open-source environments
You shy away from ambiguity, iteration, or fast-paced experimentation
Our Commitment:
We will respond to all applicants
We strive to review all applications fairly, without bias, and shortlist based on relevant skills and experience.
All active candidates will be informed of what is happening next in the process.
