Job summary

Instructure is seeking a Director of Decision Science to build and lead the team that turns data into strategic decisions. You will own the decision science function: the people, the roadmap, and the standards. Your team will run experiments, build causal and predictive models, and answer questions that shape product, pricing, go-to-market, and operating plans.

This is a people-leadership role. You’ll hire, coach, and grow a team of decision scientists, while staying close enough to review

Qualifications

• 10+ years in data science/analytics with at least 3 years in leadership.
• Proven impact: past work changed decisions and delivered measurable results.
• Deep expertise in experimental design, causal inference, ML.
• Strong SQL; fluency in Python or R.
• Experience with Snowflake, Databricks, or Spark.

Responsibilities

• Build and lead the decision science team; hire, onboard, coach, and develop scientists.
• Set the function's strategy and roadmap; decide which problems to tackle and how success is measured.
• Partner with product, engineering, marketing, finance, and executives to turn questions into analytical problems and deliver actionable answers.
• Direct development of predictive, prescriptive, and causal models for product, pricing, and operating efficiency.
• Raise the bar on insights delivery to decision-makers via dashboards, definitions, and executive readouts.
• Present findings and recommendations to senior leaders, clearly stating what is known and what isn't.
• Grow data literacy across the company so teams ask sharper questions and read results correctly.
• Collaborate with data engineering to ensure access to data, tooling, and infrastructure.
• Uphold ethical, privacy-conscious data use and compliance with regulations.
