About The Role
We're looking for a Head of D2C Growth & E-Commerce to own the direct-to-consumer business and lead its next phase of growth. This is a highly entrepreneurial opportunity to build and scale a major revenue channel at a fast-growing consumer brand. You'll work directly with the founders to develop and execute the D2C growth strategy, overseeing customer acquisition, paid advertising, e-commerce performance, email and SMS marketing, retention, and new growth opportunities. We're a small, fast-moving team of eight people, equally comfortable setting strategy, analyzing performance, and getting hands-on with execution. You'll have significant autonomy to test ideas, build systems, manage external partners, and make decisions that directly impact the business. We're looking for someone excited to take ownership of a business and revenue channel, drive its next phase of growth, and grow alongside the company.
Key Responsibilities
- Take ownership of D2C revenue growth, channel performance, and customer acquisition economics.
- Develop and execute a comprehensive growth strategy across customer acquisition, conversion, and retention.
- Analyze customer acquisition costs (CAC), lifetime value (LTV), contribution margins, and marketing efficiency to drive sustainable, profitable growth.
- Establish clear KPIs, reporting systems, and regular performance reviews.
- Identify new growth opportunities, marketing channels, and customer acquisition strategies.
- Work directly with the founders to establish marketing budgets, revenue targets, and strategic priorities.
- Build scalable systems, processes, and partnerships to support long-term D2C business growth.
Paid Advertising & Performance Marketing
- Own the strategy, creative development, execution, and optimization of Meta and Google advertising campaigns, working closely with the paid media agency.
- Lead advertising creative strategy, collaborating with the design team to develop new concepts, test messaging, and identify winning creative formats.
- Monitor and optimize key performance metrics, including ROAS, CAC, and contribution margin.
- Develop a structured testing framework to continuously improve advertising performance and scale successful campaigns.
- Plan creative development and campaign launches around university licensing approval timelines to ensure consistent execution.
- Test and scale emerging channels where customers spend time, including TikTok, Pinterest, Snapchat, Reddit, AppLovin, and LinkedIn (school-based alumni targeting).
Website & E-Commerce
- Own the performance and ongoing optimization of the Shopify website.
- Coordinate product launches, collection updates, landing pages, and promotional campaigns.
- Analyze website traffic, customer behavior, and conversion funnels to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Lead conversion rate optimization initiatives, including A/B testing, merchandising improvements, and customer experience enhancements.
- Own Google Shopping feed health and collaborate with the SEO specialist on organic search and AI answer-engine visibility.
Email, SMS & Retention Marketing
- Own the email marketing strategy, working with the agency on campaign planning, copywriting, segmentation, and execution within Klaviyo.
- Develop a consistent email calendar aligned with product launches, promotions, and seasonal events, collaborating with the NYC-based content and marketing team.
- Optimize automated email flows across the customer lifecycle.
- Analyze email performance and continuously improve engagement, conversion, and retention.
- Build loyalty, referral, and review programs that turn one-time buyers into repeat and multi-school customers.
- Test direct mail campaigns for alumni and parent segments ahead of reunions and the holiday season.
Ideal Candidate
- 3+ years of experience in growth marketing, performance marketing, or e-commerce, ideally within a consumer brand.
- Proven experience managing and scaling paid advertising campaigns across Meta and Google.
- Strong understanding of Shopify, email marketing platforms (ideally Klaviyo), and e-commerce analytics.
- Comfortable managing multiple projects and taking ownership of both strategy and execution.
- Highly analytical, with the ability to translate performance data into actionable business decisions.
- Creative thinker with a strong understanding of branding, storytelling, and effective advertising.
- Familiarity with, or curiosity about, emerging channels such as Pinterest, AppLovin, Snapchat, Reddit, and LinkedIn is a plus.
- Entrepreneurial, proactive, and excited to build processes and systems within a fast-growing startup.
- Based in New York City and available to work in person five days per week.
Compensation & Benefits
- Equity: Meaningful stock option participation, providing an opportunity to share in the company's long-term growth.
- Benefits: Health, dental, and vision insurance; paid time off; and a product allowance.
- Location: New York City, fully in person (five days per week).
