Job summary

The University of Chicago is seeking a Director of Communications for the Data Science Institute in Chicago. Hybrid schedule; leadership of a communications team; development of brand messaging across channels and media relations to highlight research and educational programs in data science and AI.

The role requires 7+ years in a related field, higher education or data science experience, and strong skills in PR, digital storytelling, and strategic planning.

Qualifications

• Minimum requirements include a college or university degree.
• 7+ years of work experience in a related job discipline.
• Experience with public relations, journalism, marketing, content marketing, digital storytelling, website management and/or social media.
• Experience with developing recruitment marketing strategies to enhance student enrollment.
• Experience with strategic planning and supervisory responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Manages DSI’s communications staff, meeting regularly to set goals and evaluate performance.
• Leads development of the DSI brand and messaging across channels.
• Oversees DSI website, ensuring security, compliance and brand alignment.
• Drives strategy for newsletters, website and social media; creates plans for internal and external communications.
• Writes press releases, speeches, and talking points; supports media relations for major events.
• Provides communications trainings and coordinates with internal and external partners to maximize outreach.
