Job summary

Elgin Community College is seeking a Senior Director of Emergency Management to lead institution-wide safety and business continuity efforts. You will partner with ECC Police, executive leadership, and external resources to plan, train, and execute comprehensive incident response and safety programs.

The role requires a bachelor’s degree in a related field, 3+ years of supervisory and continuity planning experience, and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required in Emergency Management, Public Administration, Business or related field.
  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum three years supervisory and project management experience.
  • Minimum three years developing and maintaining business continuity plans.
  • Minimum three years incident response/emergency preparedness in higher education or public sector.
  • Certifications in ICS/NIMS/IEMA/FEMA preferred or obtainable within 120 days.
  • Familiarity with related laws for campus safety and preparedness.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to handle high-stress situations.
  • Availability during activation of Emergency Operations Center.

Responsibilities

  • Identify campus exposure to threats and develop a formal, comprehensive business continuity plan.
  • Prepare EOC members and conduct progressively complex training exercises per NIMS/ICS.
  • Develop and distribute campus incident response plans and coordinate external resources.
  • Collaborate with ECC offices to educate on safety and preparedness for students and staff.
  • Maintain contact with ECC Police and act as the EOC during emergencies.
  • Lead cross-functional advisory committees and participate in the BIT as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state and federal regulations; update procedures and docs.
